DOLPHINS MAINTAIN THEIR TITLE!

Saturday 12th November 2005

On Saturday 12 November 2005 at small contingent of 19 Junior & A-Squad swimmers from Witham Dolphins Swimming Club travelled to Newmarket Swimming Pool to defend their title in the Lettergold Plastics Novice Gala and again claimed their well deserved 1ST Place scoring 134 points overall.

Swimming against other teams from City of Ely, Newmarket A & Newmarket B the Witham flew through the water and pulled out of the bag some outstanding swims and making their Team Manager Sue Shaw extremely proud of their achievements.

During the evening a total of 44 races were swum overall with Witham claiming a total of 17 FIRST place swims, along with a superb 19 Second placing’s.

Sue Shaw went on to comment, we were in the lead at the 12^th race being 20 points ahead. After event 34 the other teams had closed the gap and we knew that we had to step up another gear to maintain our title. The children did just that! For the majority of the swimmers it gave them a chance to swim an individual race in a competitive but friendly atmosphere. The continuous results achieved by this dedicated team of children, only goes to prove what hard work and determination can deliver. “I’m just thrilled to bring back the silverware to Witham”.

Final placing’s were as follows, Witham Dolphins S.C–1st Place 134 Points, 2^nd, Newmarket A 124 Points, 3^rd, City of Ely 97 points, 4^TH Newmarket B - 36 Points.

Congratulations must go to all team swimmers namely, Steve Pollett, Jacob Oram, Matthew Bilbey, Jack Cullen, Myles Florey, Nathan Bentley, Matthew Stoker, Alex Cuff, Catherine Lumley, Louise Cummins, Nicola Digby, Sarah Kersay, Katie Stratton, Charlotte White, Lauren Egg, Samantha Cuff, Lauren Baker, Megan Florey & Lauren Flight.

To end the evening a parents race was swum with Witham entering a team consisting of four swimmers, Samantha White, Janet Pollett, John Florey & Colin Flight, Swimming for fun they ALL tried really hard and came second.
