Dolphins Triumphant Weekend!

Sunday 16th October 2005

On Sunday 16 October 2005 Witham Dolphins SC hosted The “James Gibson Development Gala” at Bramston Sports Centre.

JAMES GIBSON was a member of Witham Dolphins Swimming Club between 1987 and 1998 enjoying considerable success during that time. He was Club Champion in his first year and Essex Champion between 1996 and 1998 and he still holds 14 Club records.

James has retained contact with the Club as his swimming career has progressed and following his outstanding achievements at the World Championships in 2003, Witham Dolphins decided to establish a Gala in his name.  The Gala is aimed at development swimmers who are hopefully inspired by James’ achievements.

Teams taking part during the evening were Sudbury Storms, Harwich, Wentworth SC and two Teams made up from Witham.

Again Witham delivered some outstanding performances during the course of the evening and 33 swimmers gained Personal Best times and the club won a massive total of 30 of the 49 races swum.  The atmosphere was electric on poolside and all the teams swimming were pushing hard to the end to try and win each race.

Witham had a number of swimmers making the debut during the evening and special mention must go to all of those who gained personal best times.

Rachel Turk, Casey Read, Jemma Gleghorn, Glen Pallett, Hilary Stynes, Andrew Wright, Amy Lamb, Jacob Oram, Acalia Stynes, Jack Cullen, Hannah Flight, Emily Bulleid, Nicholas Ready, Joanna Kersey, Toby French, Rachel Turk, Nicola Digby, Daniel Lynch, Rebecca Tyas, Nathan Bentley, Amy Lamb, Jordan Deemer, Lauren Tawn, Laura Briggs, Samantha Cuff, Lauren Egg, Lauren Flight, Matthew Davies, William Thorogood, Catherine Lumley, Jordan Jowitt, Charlotte White, Andrew Wright, Alex Cuff, Matthew Bilbey, Sarah Purnell, Michael Harrison, Myles Florey, Robyn Rayner.

Overall scores at the end of the evening were as follows, Witham FIRST Place 165 points, Harwich 2ND 145 Points, Sudbury 3RD 100 Points, Wentworth 4TH 55 Points.

Presenting the awards at the end of the evening we were privileged to have James’s parents Mr & Mrs Gibson who commended all the swimmers from all teams and  stayed behind afterwards to chat with members from Witham.  They also very kindly presented Witham with a signed Body-Suit from James as a token of his appreciation for continuing to run this gala.
