Waltham Forest Open

Sunday 13th March 2005

Over the weekend of 12 March 2005 Waltham Forest Swimming Club (the “Gators”) held an open gala for the secondary age group development meeting. On the Saturday only two swimmers went to compete, in the afternoon session both Katie Stratton competing in the Girls 12 years 100 metres Backstroke and Catherine Lumley competing in the Girls 15 years/over age group in the 100 metres Butterfly.
 
Katie got a personal best and finished 12th. Catherine qualified for the final in her event where she achieved a personal best, which won her first place. The Mayor of Walthamstow later presented her with her well-deserved medal. In the evening, only Katie competed in the Girls 12 years 100 metres Butterfly where she qualified for her first open gala final where she got an impressive third place, she also swam the Girls 12 years 4x1L Individual Medley, this event was held as a heat declared winner where she managed to come sixth this got her a medal.
 
On the Sunday there were four Witham Dolphins swimming, these were Nicola Digby, Sarah Digby, Lauren Egg and Catherine Lumley.
 
In the morning, Nicola Digby was first to compete for the club this kick started the clubs successive streak of entering the finals. She swam in the Girls 14 years 100 metre Breaststroke her time gained entry into the final, her hard work got her into her first open final where she achieved first place. Sarah Digby then competed with Lauren Egg in the Girls 11 years 100 metres Freestyle. Sarah came 12th in this event and Lauren Egg put all her effort into her freestyle race where she qualified for her first open gala final where she came sixth. 
 
Catherine swam in the Girls 15 years/over 100 metres freestyle where she got into the final she then got a striking 2nd place. 
 
All finalists got a medal for reaching the final that was presented by Daniel Fogg who is Waltham Forests very own national swimmer. In the afternoon session the two Digby’s competed again. Sarah competed in the Girls 11 years 100 metres Breaststroke where she came 8th over all. Nicola competed in the Girls 100 metres Freestyle.
